With this being the 3rd Annual Downtown BBQ Showdown we are looking to showcase the Downtown Historic Neighborhood and Downtown Hattiesburg to the public by offering great food and music and a family atmosphere. Our event this year has become sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS). The Mission of the KCBS is to recognizing barbeque as America's Cuisine and to celebrate, teach, preserve and promote barbeque as a culinary technique, sport and art form. This is a great accomplishment since this event is the first and only KCBS sanctioned BBQ of its kind in Hattiesburg, MS. This was all made possible with the support of Brown Bottling Co., Cheerwine and Mountain Dew who are our title sponsors this year.
We will be inviting BBQ Teams from all over the Southeast to participate in this year’s event which will be set up once again on the Walthall grounds overnight. In addition we will be looking to include selected outside vendors to participate and provide their products for sale to the attending public.
A portion of this year’s proceeds will go to support the Hattiesburg’s Historic Downtown Association with downtown beatification and other preservation projects sponsored by the HHDA.
The Downtown BBQ Showdown will offer delicious BBQ provided by the Keg & Barrel. The Keg & Barrel will also be serving potato salad, baked beans and cole slaw with the purchase of an admission ticket. Tickets will be $15.00 each. Kids ages 6-12, $5.00, Kids 6 & under free.
The Keg & Barrel will be providing a great selection of beer for purchase along with water and soft drinks. T-Shirts for the event will be for sale along with other unique foods, crafts and art provided by selected vendors. We can’t forget the children! There will be a kids zone for them to stay occupied. Of course you will be able to do all of this while you listen to some of the finest local musicians like Dr. E & the Mississippi Voodoo Kings and Tommie T-Bone Pruitt & The Rhythm Rockers.
The competition will be judged on the best beef brisket, pork shoulder/butt, chicken and pork ribs. There will be a total of $10,000.00 in cash & prizes awarded. A $1500 cash prize will go to the Grand Champion, $1000.00 for Reserve Champoin, and $500.00 for 3rd Overall. There will be prizes provided for the People’s Choice and 1st thru 10th place in each meat division.
